Welcome to the MMX Power Control Module for F-Series M-Cars with the S55 engine.
So you want loads more power and torque? You want an ultra-simple plug 'n' play solution? You don’t want to compromise reliability and efficiency? And, you want it to be removable and completely undetectable? Well… then we have EXACTLY what you need for your 3.0L F-Series M-Car!
Introducing our all-new PCM…
Here at MMX we are very excited to release our all-new PCM (Power Control Module) for F-Series M cars with the S55 Engine, including CS models. A complete plug-and-play module unlocking huge power and torque with just one click. The best bit is they’re completely removable and completely undetectable!
This has been a painstakingly detailed project carried out in-house here at MMX UK to incredibly high standards, matching OEM levels, to ensure we can deliver the ultimate PCM for these models of M-Cars. Let’s take an in-depth look at the project, starting from the very roots...
Firstly, what is a PCM and what does it do?
The PCM is responsible for the overall performance of a car, including fuel economy, emissions, and drivability. It does this by coordinating the engine, fuel injection, and emissions systems. The PCM uses sensors and algorithms to collect and analyse data in real time, making decisions to optimise performance.
Is it the same as Piggyback tuning box?
Essentially in the past these have been referred to as a ‘piggyback tuning box’. A piggyback tuning box, also known as a piggyback ECU tuner, is a device that modifies the signals sent to a vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU) to improve performance. A piggyback tuning box plugs into the engine and intercepts signals from the vehicle's sensors. It then changes the signals to trick the ECU into thinking the values are not optimal, which can cause the ECU to produce more boost or inject more fuel. Piggyback tuning boxes are often used when re-flashing is not possible, or when a standalone ECU is not an option. They are a cost-effective way to create custom tuning files.
What does our PCM do?
With multiple channels such as charge air pressure, ignition and fuelling controlled by the PCM computer, the result is increased power and torque across the entire power band of the engine. Outputs vary depending on models, but in the case of the F80 M3 for example you'll get 510bhp and 650NM of torque from our plug and play box - that’s +79bhp and +100NM on top of the OEM figures.
That’s giving you a significant increase in peak power. But let’s not get completely wrapped up in peak numbers because it is ALL about delivery and drivability too and that’s where you’ll see the biggest differences alongside the extra power. It transforms the driving experience all WITHOUT compromising reliability or efficiency.
How does the PCM work, then?
The PCM works by using our in-house developed calibration running on our standalone PCB, which communicates in parallel with the factory ECU. This communication route allows the PCM to safely optimise electronic sensor signals in real time, interfacing between the engine controls and its sensors.
Tested, tested & tested…
We have carried out tens of thousands of development miles and rigorous testing on our in-house dyno, on the road and on track with numerous calibrations, across multiple cars and different hardware installations. This has allowed us to find the sweet spot for engine performance, drivability and safety. This is a critical step and we always go the extra mile to ensure that our products will deliver on the road, on the track and in all climates. Road miles help us to perfect the calibration for what most will experience on a day-to-day basis in their car whether that's a commute to work or 'spirited' weekend driving. The track testing allows us to push the cars and our tuning to the limits so we can be absolutely sure and confident that you'll be getting the very best drivability and performance gains on offer! All while staying within safe tolerances for the engine and OEM hardware components.
What about PCM Vs full ECU calibration?
There are trade-offs and we're completely honest about this. The PCM calibration is not quite as sophisticated as a full ECU calibration. To keep the car smooth, safe and reliable, PCM's power levels have to be kept slightly lower than traditional ECU calibrations. ECU calibration is also traceable, whereas the PCM is not - for some customers that is a HUGE factor to consider.
What’s in the box?
With 12 months of detailed development, our PCM is so much more than a 'tuning box', and is in fact closer to a secondary ECU. The kit is supplied complete, including a perfect fit wiring loom and all necessary hardware made especially for your selected vehicle.
Let’s not forget about the beautiful hardware either. The unit itself is housed in a stunning billet aluminium case, finned to ensure adequate cooling, plus a beautiful carbon fibre mounting bracket to affix it securely in your engine bay. Not only is our PCM delivering on performance, but on premium looks too!
In our opinion this is the ULTIMATE balance of convenience and performance for your F Series M Car! We guarantee it’ll transform every single drive you make.
