5 Must-Have Mods for Your G87 M2

So you’re the proud owner of a BMW G87 M2. You’ve done a few miles in it and you're over the moon. But (and yes there’s a ‘but’) you feel there’s some room for improvement here and there. Well, our dedicated MMX design team has been hard at work to bring you five ways to really make your M2 sing. Let’s take a closer look…

1. PCM (Power Control Module) Upgrade.

The easiest way to add a substantial amount more poke to that beautiful 3.0L S58 engine. How does an extra 100 HP and an extra 100 Nm of torque sound? Good right. Well not only will our plug and play PCM give you that extra grunt it’s super-easy to install AND it can be removed without a trace so it’s completely undetectable. Magic.

With 12 months of detailed development, our PCM is so much more than a 'tuning box', and is in fact closer to a secondary ECU. The kit is complete, including a perfect fit wiring loom made especially for the selected vehicle. The unit itself is housed in a stunning billet aluminium case, finned to ensure adequate cooling plus a beautiful carbon fibre mounting bracket to affix it securely in your engine bay.

Our PCM works by using our in-house developed calibration running on our standalone PCB, which communicates in parallel with the factory ECU. This communication route allows the PCM to safely optimise a variety of electronic sensor signals in real time, interfacing between the engine controls and its sensors. With multiple channels such as charge air pressure, ignition and fuelling controlled by the PCM computer, the result is increased power and torque across the whole powerband of the engine.

We have carried tens of thousands of development miles of rigorous testing on our in-house dyno, on road and on track with numerous calibrations, across multiple cars and different hardware installations, allowing us to find the sweet spot for engine performance, drivability and safety.

2. Height Adjustable Lowering Springs (HAS).

So you’ve added a solid chunk of extra bhp and torque with our PCM, now you need to get the car sitting, handling and looking that bit better. Way beyond just being a fixed set of lowering springs these are height adjustable allowing you to achieve that perfect stance, while also improving handling too.

Unlike conventional lowering springs, the MMX Height adjustable springs (HAS) give you a fully customisable ride height adjustment. So, however you want your car to sit, our kit allows you to infinitely fine tune heights front and rear until you reach your ideal look.

By retaining the adaptive M dampers, this HAS solution is much more cost-effective than upgrading to coilover suspension, yet with the reassurance of keeping your high quality, sophisticated factory dampers in place. The best of both worlds. The method of height adjustment is exactly the same as on a coilover suspension setup. Four adjustable perches fit underneath the Sport Springs. With a simple turn up or down on the threaded platform to adjust ride height, you can tailor it until it reaches your perfect height and rake.

This generous sweep of adjustment provides a lowering range of 20-45mm on the front and 10-35mm at the rear (versus the factory ride height). The sport springs themselves, finished in beautiful MMR grey, are progressive rate springs, with rates carefully chosen to match with the damper characteristics of the factory suspension. The kit comes supplied with everything you need.

3. Magnetic Gear Shift Paddles.

Let’s go inside the cabin for the next mod and take a look at our beautiful billet, anodised, magnetic shift paddles. Not only will these give you a substantial visual upgrade, but with advanced magnetic shift technology you’ll experience crisp, responsive gear transitions. Each shift delivers a satisfying click with instant engagement, making every drive more enjoyable and precise.

It’s easy to see why the OEM paddle shift can feel weak and spongy - almost underwhelming. That’s where our magnetic system truly stands out. Each shift delivers a satisfying click with instant engagement, making every drive more enjoyable and precise.

Manufactured from Aircraft grade T6-6061 aluminium billet our gear shift paddle set puts you back in control of your BMW, to make grabbing the next gear more intuitive and certainly more pleasurable. This added feel and ease of use make our paddles the natural choice over the slightly disappointing OEM paddles. We have developed these with the track in mind, making it easy for you to select gears no matter the steering angle. Because, unlike some stick-on alternatives, we have engineered these to be complete replacement blades along with new control units.

Each paddle starts life as a solid billet of aluminium, giving total rigidity for each gear change and avoiding the horrible bendy/wobbly feel that less rigid paddles offer. Our elegant paddle set has been specifically designed with the BMW M-Performance steering wheel in mind and therefore follows the curves and lines of the wheel itself.

4. Front Wheel Arch Clearance Kit.

You needn’t be afraid of going full lock again and having to listen to that awful scrape of the tyre against the arch liner. Ouch! MMX Performance's replacement aluminium grilles offer extra clearance for modified M2's with lowered suspension, wider tyres, or wheel spacers. Designed to maintain airflow and protect against debris, the grilles feature a durable black powder coat and laser-cut hexagonal design. They securely attach with four fixings per side.

We noticed a common problem with the original BMW front arch liners — they feature a vented section designed to let air escape from the front bumper, but the clearance between this section and the tyre is limited. On a standard car, that’s not usually an issue. But once you start modifying your car with lower suspension, wider tyres, or even wheel spacers, that small gap quickly becomes a problem. The tyre can catch on the plastic vent fins, instantly damaging them — and in some cases, those broken pieces can even damage the tyre or radiator.

Our replacement grilles give you the extra clearance needed for modified setups, while still allowing air to flow out of the bumper just like the original design intended. We’ve tested these on lowered cars with different tyre setups to make sure they do exactly what they’re supposed to — without compromising clearance.

Manufactured from strong yet lightweight aluminium, with a hexagonal grid design laser-cut into them for a clean, high-quality finish. They’re then powder-coated in a durable MMX black coating to handle whatever the road throws at them. Each grille mounts securely to the arch liner using four fixings per side, making them stay firmly in place. We supply them as a complete kit with all the fittings so installation is straightforward. It’s a simple but effective upgrade for any modified M2 owner looking for a functional solution. Please note that cutting and removing the original vented section from your OE arch liner will be required for fitting.

5. Differential Heat Shields (Our fave).

You need to protect what you’ve got and in this case it’s those OEM factory-fitted CV boots. Under intense track conditions they are prone to cracking and premature failure due to excessive heat exposure - especially when running an aftermarket exhaust. We've engineered precision driveshaft heat shields to provide superior thermal protection, effectively deflecting radiant heat and extending the lifespan of critical drivetrain components. Designed for enthusiasts who push their cars to the limit, our heat shields offer a simple yet essential upgrade for enhanced durability and reliability on and off the track.

Upgrading to an aftermarket exhaust system or increasing engine performance generates significantly more heat in the drivetrain area. With the exhaust sitting closer to the CV boots, this excess heat leads to premature cracking and failure of the factory rubber boots. Over time, this can cause grease leaks, CV joint wear, and eventual driveline issues—especially under aggressive track conditions.

BMW’s response to this well-known issue is to fit CS/CSL driveshafts, which come at an eye-watering cost of over £2,000. MMX offers a smarter, cost-effective alternative that achieves the same level of protection without the need for expensive drivetrain replacements. MMX heat shields are engineered to provide a strong, effective barrier between your CV boots and the intense heat radiating from your exhaust system. Whether you’re running a factory or aftermarket setup, these shields act as a protective layer to deflect heat away, ensuring your drivetrain components last longer under demanding conditions.

Precision-crafted from T6-6062 aluminium, our heat shields are both lightweight and durable. Our signature MMX polished and anodised gloss black finish not only enhances thermal dissipation but also provides a sleek, factory-like appearance. With everything you need in one package, protecting your CV boots from excessive heat has never been easier.
